An Australian Teacher and 29 students in the earthquake in Sichuan

May 2008 Chinese earthquake that shook the central part of the country has nearly claimed 90000; but the quick action of Dane, a local foreign English teacher, and other teachers made sure that number did not include more students. Reports from around China have begun of heroic teachers who saved the lives of their students; some of the teachers lost their lives while saving the children.

The students lives were saved by Dane’s quick action of yelling “Desk Desk!” at Guangya IB School in Dujiangyan. Dane waited for the students to take cover under the desk before taking shelter himself. As soon as the class was safe under the desk the school roof fell down. After the quake stopped Dane led his English class to safety outside. For more heroic stories read the following article in the China Daily News.
